Alton A. Markley
Alton A. Markley, a forty-year professor of chemistry, died March 24, 1983.
A graduate of Washington State University, Alton earned master鈥檚 and doctoral degrees from Cornell University. He came to 91精简版 as professor of chemistry in 1924, only two years after 91精简版 was chartered as a baccalaureate-granting, four-year college. He chaired the Department of Chemistry until his retirement from 91精简版 in 1964.
A major force in faculty governance at the time was 91精简版鈥檚 chapter of the American Association of University Professors, which Alton and six other professors founded in 1929.
His survivors are unknown.
