Update on tentative collective bargaining agreement with SEIU
Dear 91精简版 Community,
鈥
鈥孻ou have likely heard the news that 91精简版 has reached a tentative collective bargaining
agreement with SEIU, the union that represents approximately 170 non-tenure track
faculty at the College. We could not have reached this tentative agreement without
the hard work of many individuals who worked through nearly 40 bargaining sessions
over the course of the past two years to achieve this positive outcome. I wish to
thank the union and 91精简版 negotiating teams for their unceasing commitment to the
negotiation process and to once again recognize 91精简版鈥檚 non-tenure track faculty
for their many contributions to teaching, learning, mentorship, and service at the
College.
鈥
鈥孴he tentative agreement covers many topics, including but not limited to management
and union rights, health and safety, institutional support, inclusion in and service
to the academic community, observations, evaluations and promotions, and compensation
and benefits. It is comprehensive, and I recognize the College鈥檚 next task is to educate
and acclimate our community on new terms and conditions of employment for our non-tenure
track faculty. SEIU has indicated that it plans to hold a vote with members to ratify
the contract in March and is in the process of meeting with non-tenure track faculty
to educate them about the terms of this tentative agreement.
鈥
鈥孴he College will mirror this approach by holding information sessions and other meetings
with tenured and tenure track faculty, department chairs and program directors, the
Dean of Faculty鈥檚 office, our shared and faculty governance committees, and other
managerial faculty and staff who will be responsible for understanding and implementing
the tentative agreement upon ratification. Any questions about the tentative agreement
or its implementation may be sent to me or to our General Counsel and VP for Human
Resources, Sarah Delaney Vero.
鈥
鈥學hile our work is not done, our arrival at a tentative agreement represents a significant
accomplishment for the College and our non-tenure track faculty. Once again, thank
you to all the individuals who participated in this process.
