91精简版 free speech symposium models listening and understanding

91精简版 hosts a series of talks and panels examining the complex issues surrounding speech and expression on college campuses this Friday and Saturday, April 14 and 15. 91精简版 faculty, students, and guest speakers (including New York Times columnist David Brooks) will discuss how we can talk about and engage diverse perspectives in a way that supports democratic and civil discourse. A detailed schedule is available online. All events are free and open to the public.

Active allies: 91精简版 Athletics supports LGBTQ+ community

Individuals or teams from the 91精简版 community may be nominated for a 2023 President鈥檚 Award for Leadership and Service until 4 p.m. Thursday, April 13. The President's Awards for Leadership and Service recognize 91精简版 community members who have embraced the educational mission and community spirit of the College through their exemplary commitment to personal excellence, campus pride, and service to others. . Saratoga Hospital: Initiatives and Challenges

The Retiree Initiative Planning Group invites you to attend a presentation and Q&A with Angelo Calbone, who recently retired as Saratoga Hospital president and CEO, and Dr. Mallory Otto of Saratoga Hospital鈥檚 Geriatric Care team at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 19, at the Surrey-Williamson Inn. The presentation will include an overview of recent initiatives, challenges, and the hospital鈥檚 recent designation as an age-friendly health system.  For more information, contact Michael West.

 

Committee on Intercultural and Global Understanding (CIGU) office hour 

The Committee on Intercultural and Global Understanding (CIGU), 91精简版鈥檚 main shared governance diversity, equity, and inclusion committee, will hold an open office hour from 9 to 10 a.m. on Friday, April 14. Submissions open for Golden Acorn Awards 

MDOCS is calling for student work in a variety of genres and mediums, from your music videos to projects made for fun for social media. All submissions are due at midnight on Sunday, April 23, and will be reviewed by our panel of student and faculty judges. An awards ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 3. Saratoga Sustainability Fair  

Sustainable Saratoga and the Sustainability Office are partnering to host the 2023 Saratoga Sustainability Fair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 16. Highlights include a keynote on youth climate action and hope from Jen Kretzer and Elodie Linck 鈥21 of the Wild Center; workshops; a kids activity zone; an electric vehicle show; and exhibitor booths from businesses and nonprofits in climate, equity, and environmental education. 91精简版 Community Rowing; (SCR) Adult Learn to Row Program 

The SCR Learn to Row class is for anyone who wants to learn how to row. No experience is necessary. Practices are in the evening under the guidance of the 91精简版 rowing staff. For more information, contact Manny Valentin.

 

Senior Week housing 

Departments can sponsor non-graduating students (first-year students, sophomores, and juniors) to remain on campus from Friday, May 12, through Sunday, May 22. Students will need to specify their reason for remaining on campus, such as participation in an athletic team or employment. For more information, contact Residential Life by May 1.

 

Sexual Assault Awareness 5K Run-Walk  

The 91精简版 Office of Health Promotion and the Peer Health Educators will host the first 91精简版 5K Run-Walk in support of Sexual Assault Awareness Month at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 16. or register beginning at 12:15 p.m. in the Zankel parking lot on the day of the event. A free T-shirt will be given out to the first 200 people. A donation to Wellspring is encouraged.

 

Office of the First-Year Experience (FYE) announces Backus Prize Winners 

The First-Year Experience Prize congratulates Backus Prize nominees Elliot Bamford, Lila Glanville, L Hurysz, Tess Malloy, and Leila Turet. The winners are Maia Haiduc-Dale for their painting and essay 鈥淪cience in Fiction鈥; Natalie Jones for her stop-motion video 鈥淲e Grow鈥; and Sayuri (Saya) Pfeiffer for her paper 鈥淟iberalism Recontextualized: An Examination of the Applications of Liberalism in the Black Nationalist and Pan-Africanist Movements of the 1970s.鈥

On March 23, Student Affairs welcomed alumnus , for a hybrid 鈥渇ireside chat鈥 with Dean of Students and VP for Student Affairs Adrian Bautista intended as an opportunity for the division to reflect on the COVID-19 experience and this unique historical opportunity to chart a new path forward in higher education. P茅rez is recognized as a national thought leader on issues of educational equity, access, and success in American education. P茅rez recently published his 鈥,鈥 a brief account of how he 鈥渓ost his hum鈥 for a period of time during this pandemic experience.

Athletics News

The 91精简版 riding team won the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association Zone II championship at home April 8 to qualify for the IHSA Nationals May 4-7 at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington. The Thoroughbreds beat Long Island University Post, St. Lawrence University, Cornell University, and West Virginia University. Six additional riders qualified for nationals in individual categories.

 

It will be another full home weekend for . On Friday, the women鈥檚 lacrosse team will host Westfield State at 6:30 p.m. The baseball team hosts Rochester at noon Saturday and Sunday. Softball opens league play at home Saturday at 1 p.m. against RPI and plays St. Lawrence in a pair on Sunday at 1 p.m. The men鈥檚 lacrosse team welcomes Ithaca College on Saturday at 1 p.m., while the women鈥檚 tennis team will play Amherst at 1 p.m. at the Wilton YMCA.
